NGOs for
HIV/AIDS
Gram
Bharati Samiti (GBS), in collaboration with regional
organizations and Sally Fisher, founder and president of
Intersect Worldwide, presented workshops on coalition
building in the fields of HIV/AIDS and Violence against
Women & Girls (VAW&G).
First of the 3 workshops was organized in Guwahati, Assam on
28-29 October, 2006. The second in Patna, Bihar on 31
October - 1 November, 2006 and the third was organized in
Ahmedabad, Gujaraton 5 - 6 November, 2006
125 NGOs/CBOs including 60 women participated in the 3
workshops. Looking to create regional coalitions, the
workshops were regionally determined and brought together
non-governmental organizations (NGOs) and community-based
organizations (CBOs) working on HIV/AIDS and women’s
empowerment projects.
The issues discussed in the workshops were based on some
common questions like - what resources exists in you
district that you can call on to support your work, what can
you gain by working together, what barriers might you find,
what are your common goals and common concerns and what
other groups would you invite and include to begin your work
with? It built a strong collaboration of NGOs/CBOs in these
states. |
